About Us

Our mission is to provide a quality childcare experience that helps your child develop physically, socially, and emotionally.

About Me
Hello. My name is Amy Rose Burke. I am the owner and director at Rugrats Hideout Daycare & Learning Center. I have been caring for children for over nine years. I am certified in Adult and infant CPR and First Aid, and have also completed blood borne pathogen training.  I have two children of my own. My daughter Maggie, age 19, just graduated from Northview High School and is attending Grand Rapids Community College.  Maggie is also one of our part time teachers.  I also have a son, Tyler who is a freshman at Northview and enjoys soccer and being with his friends. My husband Ronn is very supportive of my passion for caring for children.  Ronn is employed at Steelcase and also plays in a local band called Natchez Trace.  I opened Rugrats Daycare because I love children and I wanted to create an environment that was safe, fun and healthy for children to be in. We promise to nurture your child as if he or she was our own.

My Philosophy
I believe that all children deserve love, attention, and nurturing. I believe that a safe environment allows children to explore and grow. At Rugrats Daycare, we allow children to have hands-on learning experiences. This fosters age appropriate development. We read and sing to the children everyday. We believe that positive reinforcement is important for children to develop self-esteem. Children need an environment that supports free expression and stimulates learning. Most importantly, however, I believe that children need to have fun! .

At Rugrats Daycare we recognize that you have a difficult schedule and support parents the best we can. We offer drop-in care and early drop-off and late pick-up so that your schedule can be accommodated. We recognize the importance of work, and the stress and demands placed on parents. We strive to make it easier on parents by giving them the knowledge that their children are in good hands.

Infant room:  Ratio 1:4
Our infant room is an area that is clean, organized and geared towards the care of our youngest children.  The infant room teachers follow schedules given to us by parents.  Parents provide bottles, (premade), they must be labeled with the child's name, date and contents.  Parents also provide the following:  diapers, wipes, baby cereal and infant food.   We provide table foods for your baby when they are ready.  All of our staff have been train in infant CPR, first aid and blood borne pathogen.   Parents are given a daily activity report describing your babies food intake, nap times, diaper changes and special milestones they may have reached that day.  We provide plenty of safe space for floor time to encourage rolling over, sitting up and tummy time.   Your baby will have their own crib with sheets we provide, cubby for their personal items and toys for them to play with that are sanitized everyday.

Wobbler room:  Ratio 1:4
The wobbler room is an area for children who are learning to walk; we have placed toys and shelves at a child's level that is great to encourage them to pull up and cruise around.  Children in this room are "wobblers", not quite toddlers and are no longer infants.  In this room we start to focus on singing, animal noises and learning body parts.  Children enjoy dancing and story times while still allowing them a schedule that may require more than one nap a day.  We also provide sensory activities and "messy" play!

Toddler room:  Ratio 1:4
Oh those active toddlers!  They keep us busy, but that's our job!  Our toddler room is chuck full of toys and activities to encourage children to share and start using their imaginations.  We provide children with more structured activities, including circle time and stories/songs.  Art activities, outside times and free play are all part of our daily routine.  If you are looking to start potty training your toddler, we are more than happy to help!  We will encourage and work with you and your child with the potty training process.  Please keep in mind that we do not require children to be potty trained before moving into our preschool room!

Preschool room:  Ratio 1:8 / 1:10
Why send your child to a "preschool" when you can get it here!  We have our preschool room set up with different areas for our children to learn and explore.  Some of our areas include:  housekeeping/dress up, free art, car and block area, library, and puzzles; manipulative toys.  Children's routines are structured and they are taught to take turns, socialize, use manners and have fun!  Group times are twice and a day and include; stories, songs, fingerplays and children are also taught, colors, & shapes.  We also teach children how to spell their names.

Kindergarten Readiness / schoolage room:  Ratio 1:12
We feel that we are in an awesome position to help prepare your child for kindergarten.   We work with children on recognizing and writing their letters and numbers.  Our goal is to have children writing their names and be totally prepared to enter kindergarten.  We have an awesome program with this age group that encourages them to be responsible for themselves and learn how to express themselves and their feelings.  We celebrate our hardwork preparing for school by having a "graduation celebration" for the children.  This room is also shared with children who come to daycare before/after school.  Schoolage children can have a quiet area to relax after school if they need to and are encouraged to do homework if you'd like them too.
